Checklist, Red List, and Distribution Pattern of Charophytes (Charophyceae, Charales) in Slovakia Based on Critical Revision of Herbarium Specimens

A critical revision of charophytes collected in Slovakia from 1887 up to present, based on herbaria specimens, provided us with the opportunity compile an updated checklist and revaluate their threat status order obtain current red list Slovakia. The data obtained will fill gap knowledge about these macroscopic algae Central Europe. revised includes 19 representatives three genera: Chara (11), Nitella (7), Nitellopsis (1). Following latest IUCN red-list categories criteria (version 3.1) using modified category regionally extinct (RE), derived (EX), 36.8% are classified as RE (Chara connivens, C. subspinosa (=rudis), capillaris, N. confervacea, flexilis, gracilis, opaca); 21% EN (endangered; braunii, mucronata, syncarpa, obtusa); VU (vulnerable; contraria, gymnophylla, hispida, virgata); 10.6% NT (near-threatened; globularis, vulgaris); 5.3% CR (critically endangered; canescens) species; finally, species could not be assessed (DD; aspera).
